Review of Penn Valley, California

Interesting place to live
Star Rating - 2/25/2007
I lived in Penn Valley for 8 years and found it offered numerous positive attributes. Located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, Penn Valley is above the fog of the Sacramento Valley, but below the snow of Grass Valley. Penn Valley has a very large percentage of retirees living in a large gated community called Lake Wildwood. The remaining people live primarily on acreage. Though the immediate area doesn't offer much as far as culture or formal recreation, but does offer very picturesque scenery, and country roads that lead to various reservoirs and rivers. Crime is extremely low with the majority of crime being perpetrated by juveniles. For a small town, people are friendly but it takes a long time to be accepted (7 years before you're no longer a newcomer). All-in-all, it offers wonderful outdoor recreation for people who lover summer fun. Don't expect any conveniences as it is a small town.
